Slow Cookers
Tips Food safety Because slow cookers cook at low temperatures it is essential to make sure that every thing is clean: utensils, cooker, work area and especially your hands. Food will stay safe in the slow cooker as long as the unit is on. If power goes out while you are out, do not use. Throw it out If power goes out and you are aware of it right away, finish cooking the contents by another means, such as gas stove or barbecue. If the power goes out and the food was already completely cooked, then contents will remain safe for up to 2 hours in the slow cooker. Do not leave food in slow cooker longer than 2 hours. Remove and store leftovers in shallow containers with the 2 hour period and refrigerate. Do not reheat foods in a slow cooker. It is best to reheat on the stove , microwave, oven and then place in preheated slow cooker to keep it warm. |
